Biography of Ben Browder
Ben Browder is an American actor and writer, best known for his roles as John Crichton in the series "Farscape" and "The Peacekeeper Wars" and Cameron Mitchell in various "Stargate" series. He was born on December 11, 1962, in Memphis, Tennessee, USA.
Early Life and Education
Browder's parents were involved in servicing racing cars and owned them. However, Ben chose a different path. He grew up in Tennessee and North Carolina and graduated from Furman University in South Carolina with a degree in psychology. He was also a key player in the university football team.
Acting Career
After university, Browder went to London to study at the Central School of Speech and Drama. It was there that he met actress Francesca Buller, who became his wife in 1989. Upon returning to the United States, Browder landed the role of Sam Brody in the series "Party of Five" in 1997.
In 1999, he was offered the role of American astronaut John Crichton in the series "Farscape," which was filmed in Australia. Browder and his wife moved to Australia with their two children for the duration of the series. His performance in "Farscape" earned him two Saturn Awards for Best Actor on Television.
After "Farscape," Browder returned to the United States and appeared in films such as "Perfect Strangers" (2004) and "Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Charlie's Angels." He also reprised his role as John Crichton in the mini-series "Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars" in 2004.
In 2005, Browder joined the cast of the popular science fiction series "Stargate SG-1" as the new team leader, Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell. He reunited with his former co-star Claudia Black from "Farscape," and some critics noted similarities between "Stargate SG-1" and "Farscape" in certain episodes.
Browder has also appeared in supporting roles in other films and television series, including "Melrose Place" and "Murder, She Wrote."
