Benjamin Barger is a renowned American sailor and skipper who has been selected to represent the United States in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.
Early Life and Career Inspiration
Born on December 24, 1980, in Greenville, Texas, Barger was introduced to sailing at a young age on his father's Corsair F27. His passion for the sport grew through windsurfing and countless hours spent on the water. He attended Lakewood High School and later Eckerd College. Barger is currently a member of Davis Island Yacht Club and St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
Road to the Olympics
Barger's Olympic journey started with the pre-Olympic trials, where he narrowly missed qualification for the 2004 Games. Undeterred, he returned to Florida for more training and determination. He subsequently won four regattas and earned his spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. Among his notable victories are the:
