Bill Shannon - An American Artist, Performer, and Dancer
Bill Shannon, an American artist, performer, and dancer, is known for inventing a new form of dance - crutch dancing. He also practices skateboarding on crutches and performs incredible feats on his crutches. Shannon was born in 1970 in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Since birth, he has had a degenerative hip condition, which doctors diagnosed as a bilateral degenerative hip condition. Shockingly, statistics show that one out of every 1,200 babies in the world is born with this condition. Despite relying on crutches from a young age, Bill was a restless boy who found it difficult to sit still and limit himself to the activities his crutches allowed him to engage in. Moreover, as an adult, Bill admits that he was constantly bothered by pity. He would stumble down stairs or trip on the sidewalk, and everywhere he went, he would encounter sympathetic glances and hear apologies. However, Bill Shannon did not feel sick or in any way inadequate. Not at all! He was an artist and performer at heart, and as such, he knew how to create. If nature had given him crutches, then Shannon set out to create with crutches. He invented his own technique of dance - crutch dancing. Today, he is known as the "Crutch Master" by fans and colleagues alike. Watching Bill dance, one would never imagine that this person does not use his legs fully and that his crutches are merely accessories for his dance. In addition to dancing, Bill has also learned skateboarding on crutches. Some of his street dances even incorporate elements of skateboarding. Overall, Shannon's style cannot be described as any existing genre, as no one had done it before him. In addition to his dance performances and tricks, Bill works as a choreographer and is also an artist and installation creator. He has performed at major dance contests and festivals, and is the recipient of many grants and awards, such as the National Endowment for the Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, Foundation for Contemporary Performance Art Award, and many others.
