Biography of Blackie Dammet

Blackie Dammet, also known as John Michael Kiedis or Spider, was an American actor and author. He was born on December 7, 1939, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. He was the father of Anthony Kiedis, the lead vocalist of the legendary rock band 'Red Hot Chili Peppers' (RHCP).

Early Life and Family

According to Anthony's autobiography, 'Scar Tissue,' Blackie spent a lot of time at the Rainbow Bar and Grill, where he sold drugs to rock icons such as Keith Moon from 'The Who' and members of 'Led Zeppelin.' He introduced Anthony to smoking marijuana when he was just eleven years old. Blackie's father, Antanas Kiedis, and mother, Julija, were Lithuanian immigrants from Tauragė, Lithuania. Their son, John Alden, was the only child born in the United States. Blackie married Margaret 'Peggy' Idema in 1960, and they had Anthony. He also had a second son, James Kiedis, born in 1983.

Acting Career

Blackie Dammet appeared in several films, including 'National Lampoon's Class Reunion' (1982), 'Meatballs Part II' (1984), and 'Lethal Weapon' (1987), where he played a drug dealer. He also made television appearances in shows such as 'Starsky and Hutch,' 'Trapper John, M.D.,' 'It's Garry Shandling's Show,' and 'ALF.'

Fan Club and Publishing

For many years, Blackie Dammet headed the Red Hot Chili Peppers' fan club. Using the nickname 'Head Honcho,' he helped launch his son's band's website, kept fans updated on RHCP events, and managed the fan club's magazine distribution. He had close relationships with many RHCP fans and was highly involved in the band's community. Blackie signed an exclusive publishing deal with Christopher Matthew Spencer's company, 'The Spencer.' His autobiography, 'Lords of the Sunset Strip,' was published on April 1, 2013, through 'Kindle Direct Publishing' by 'Amazon.'

Television Series

A television series based on the biographies of Blackie Dammet and Anthony Kiedis, titled 'Spider and Son,' was planned for HBO. However, it was later announced that the series would only be based on Anthony's autobiography, 'Scar Tissue.' The premiere was scheduled for the end of 2010, and a pilot script was already written by John Sayles. The rights to the series were acquired by FX network in 2011. According to Dammet, the production was put on hold, but he hopes that the project will be revived in 2013, after the RHCP's 'I'm with You World Tour' concludes.
