Robert "Bob" Costas was born on March 22, 1952, in the United States. He is widely known as a professional sports journalist for NBC. Costas was born in New York to a mother of Irish descent and a father of Greek heritage. Growing up in an intellectual family, Bob excelled in school and went on to attend Syracuse University.

Early Career
While studying at Syracuse, Costas began his first steps as a sports commentator. He started by commentating on games of the Syracuse hockey team and impressed with his skills. As a result, he started receiving invitations to cover matches of other teams and educational institutions.

Professional Career
Costas' professional career took off when he began commentating on games of the "Spirits" team in the American Basketball League.
