Bob Daisley: A Legendary Bassist and Songwriter

Bob Daisley is an accomplished musician known for his exceptional bass guitar skills, songwriting abilities, and production prowess. His versatile playing style has graced various genres, including hard rock, heavy metal, rock 'n' roll, and blues.

Early Career and Breakthrough

Daisley's career commenced in 1972 with the British blues-rock band Chicken Shack. He then briefly played with Mungo Jerry, contributing to their album "Long Legged Woman Dressed in Black." His breakthrough came with the heavy metal group Widowmaker, where he featured on two albums: "Widowmaker" (1975) and "Too Late to Cry" (1977).

Rainbow and Blizzard of Ozz

In 1977, Daisley replaced Mark Clark in the iconic hard rock band Rainbow. He played on their album "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll." However, he was dismissed from the group along with Ronnie Dio and David Stone in late 1978.

The following year, Daisley joined Ozzy Osbourne's new project, Blizzard of Ozz. Together with Osbourne and guitarist Randy Rhoads, he co-wrote and recorded most of the material for the albums "Blizzard of Ozz" (1980) and "Diary of a Madman" (1981). However, he was fired alongside drummer Lee Kerslake in the spring of 1981. Both musicians later faced legal disputes with Osbourne over songwriting credits.

Uriah Heep and Other Collaborations

Daisley's next venture was with the reformed Uriah Heep, where he co-authored numerous songs on the albums "Abominog" (1982) and "Head First" (1983). From 1984 onwards, he collaborated extensively with guitarist Gary Moore. He also re-established his connection with Ozzy Osbourne, co-writing all the songs on Osbourne's album "The Ultimate Sin" (1986).

Black Sabbath and Beyond

In 1987, Daisley joined Black Sabbath at the behest of guitarist Tony Iommi. They co-wrote the entire album "The Eternal Idol," with Daisley penning all the lyrics. However, the album credits listed only Iommi as the songwriter.

Throughout the 1990s and beyond, Daisley continued to lend his talents as a bassist, songwriter, lyricist, and producer to a multitude of renowned musicians, including Yngwie Malmsteen, Jeff Watson (Night Ranger), Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge), Bill Ward (Black Sabbath), and Jon Lord (Deep Purple).
