Biography of Bonnie Lee Bakley
Bonnie Lee Bakley was born in 1956 in the small town of Morristown, located in northern New Jersey. She was one of three children in the family of Edward J. Bakley and Marjorie, along with her siblings Margery, Joseph, and stepbrother Peter. As a teenager, Bonnie ran away from home to live with her grandmother in Wharton. At the age of 16, she dropped out of school and moved to New York City, where she aspired to attend the Barbizon School of Modeling and pursue a career as an actress and fashion designer. At the age of 21, she married her second cousin, with whom she had two children.
Soon after her divorce, Bonnie began to have problems with the police. In 1989, she was arrested for drug use and, shortly before that, for using counterfeit documents. In her youth, Bonnie resorted to less than honest ways to earn money. For example, she would send explicit photos to men, offering sex for money. Furthermore, many of Bonnie's friends and relatives referred to her as "obsessed with celebrities," as she would often fabricate nonexistent romances with stars. In 1993, Bonnie claimed to be pregnant with the famous American rock and roll performer Jerry Lee Lewis. However, a DNA test conducted after the birth of the child disproved Bonnie's claims.
Justifying her actions, Bonnie stated that she simply enjoyed being among celebrities. Regardless, she married several wealthy men, but none of her marriages lasted more than a year.
Eventually, Bonnie accumulated enough money to purchase two mansions in Los Angeles and Memphis. In 1999, she met Robert Blake at a birthday party for Chuck McCann. Shortly after their meeting, Bonnie became pregnant again, making it her fourth child. However, she was uncertain about the paternity of the child. A DNA test confirmed that Robert Blake was the father, leading the musician to marry Bonnie. This was Blake's second marriage and Bonnie's tenth.
On May 4, 2001, after having dinner with her husband at an Italian restaurant in Studio City, Bonnie was shot in the head. The murder occurred in their parked car near the restaurant. The motives behind the murder, as well as the identity of the perpetrator, remained unclear until 2005. It was known that, coincidentally, Robert returned to the restaurant during the shooting, claiming he had forgotten something in the dining area. Bonnie Lee Bakley was buried at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills Memorial Park, leaving behind four children.
In March 2005, Robert Blake was acquitted of Bonnie's murder by a jury. The verdict was 11:1 in favor of acquittal, despite Robert's clear involvement in his wife's death. It is known that after the trial, Judge Steve Cooley called him a "petty and unfortunate man" and referred to the jurors as "fools."
In November 2005, Robert was finally found to be involved in his wife's death. The civil court sentenced him to pay $30 million to Bonnie's orphaned children.
On April 26 of the same year, the appellate court upheld the verdict but reduced the fine by half.
