Early Life and Education

Boris Kaufman, a Ukrainian millionaire and businessman, was born in Odessa, Ukraine. He received his law degree from the Odessa State University named after I.I. Mechnikov in 1995.

Business Ventures

Alcoholic Beverage Industry

In 1996, Kaufman joined the "Overline" corporation as Deputy Head of "Overline Trading Ltd." By 2002, he had become its President. The corporation brought together several assets in the alcoholic beverage industry, including the First Liquor Vodka Plant, Odessa Champagne Factory, Izmail Wine Factory, GoldenLine Trading House, and the Izmail agricultural firm. At its peak, Overline exported its products to over 20 countries. Kaufman sold the "Myagkov" brand to the Russian holding "Synergy" in 2008, and the Odessa Champagne Factory to the Italian company Campari in 2009.

Hotel Business

In partnership with Alexander Granovsky, Kaufman manages a portfolio of hotels through the company Vertex Hotel Group. These include the "Bristol," "Londonskaya" in Odessa, and the "President Hotel" in Kyiv. Kaufman and Granovsky also acquired the "Passage" hotel in Odessa in 2003. The Bristol, renovated to its original design, became the third five-star hotel in Odessa. The "President Hotel" in Kyiv was transferred to the management of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide in 2013.

Construction Business

Kaufman and Granovsky own the "Kashtan-Development" holding company, which develops residential complexes in Odessa. They also own construction companies such as "Grand-Invest" and "Ukrbudservice."

Banks

Kaufman was a shareholder of Finbank, which ranked 50th among Ukrainian banks in terms of total assets in 2014. He sold his stake in the bank later that year.

Aviation

Kaufman's name is linked to the aviation industry. He is associated with the Odessa International Airport project, where investors were tasked with building a new airport terminal. He is also connected to the attempted reconstruction of the Simferopol Airport in Crimea.

Media

In 2013, Vertex United bought the "Focus" media project from UMH group and Gennady Bogolyubov. Kaufman and Granovsky formerly controlled the Odessa television channel "RIAK."

Politics

Kaufman ran for the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) in 2006 from the "Litvin Bloc."

Religion

Kaufman is known for his contributions to the reconstruction of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

Family and Social Activities

Kaufman is married and has three children. He established an award for the best socially significant IT project at the ICDEE 2014 conference. Kaufman supports the art project "Rodina," which showcased Ukrainian artists in Odessa in 2014.
