Early Life and EducationBoris Kit, the son of a Belarusian postal official, was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1910. His family returned to Belarus in 1918, where he attended school, graduating from the Belarusian Gymnasium in 1928. Kit went on to earn a Master's degree in mathematics from Vilnius University in 1933.
Academic and Professional Career
During his university years, Kit taught mathematics at the Vilna Belarusian Gymnasium. In 1939, he became its director. After the annexation of the Baltic territories by the USSR, Kit returned to Novohrudek, where he worked as a teacher.
In 1944, Kit fled to Germany with the retreating German forces, later settling in Munich. There, he taught mathematics at the Ukrainian National Gymnasium and studied medicine at the University of Munich.
Immigration to the United States
In 1948, Kit immigrated to the United States, where he worked as a chemist for several companies. In 1950, he joined North American Aviation, where he made significant contributions to rocket propulsion and the development of fuels for the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs.
