Boris Zelenski: Belarusian and Russian Science Fiction Writer
Early Life and EducationBoris Zelenski, a renowned Belarusian and Russian science fiction writer and translator, was born in Slonim, Grodno Oblast. After graduating with a degree in mathematics from Belarusian State University, he worked as a programmer (1970).
Career
Zelenski's diverse career included stints as a researcher at the Minsk Scientific Research Institute of Instrument Engineering (1970-87), editor at the publishing house "Eridan" (1990-92), and security guard. He began publishing his works in 1984 in the literary magazine "Nyoman." He was an active participant in the Maleev Workshops and the seminars of the Writers' Union of Moldova and Russia. From the late 1980s onward, Zelenski became a professional writer.
Literary Work
Zelenski's debut science fiction story, "Adepts of Adaptation" (1984), launched his literary career. He subsequently published numerous stories and novellas in various periodicals and anthologies. His acclaimed novella, "The Whole World in a Barn," published in the journal "Parus" in 1988, brought him widespread recognition.
Publications and Recognition
Zelenski's only full-length publication was the collection "Eternal Solitaire" (1990), which featured his earlier works. He also released several smaller editions containing one or two stories each. Zelenski actively attended science fiction conventions, including "Aelita-91," "Volgakon-2001," and "Roscon-2003."
Death
Tragically, Boris Zelenski passed away on December 1, 2004, due to medical malpractice. His legacy as a talented and influential science fiction writer continues to inspire readers and fellow authors alike.
