Birth and Early Life
Brandon Bochenski was born in Blaine, Minnesota, USA, on April 1, 1982. His family has Polish ancestry, having fled during World War II.
Junior Career
Bochenski's hockey journey began with the Blaine Bengals. His standout performance in the 1999/2000 season earned him a transfer to the Lincoln Stars, where he excelled with 80 points (47 goals, 33 assists) in 55 games.
NHL Draft and Minor League Experience
In the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Bochenski was selected 223rd overall by the Ottawa Senators. He spent several years in both the NHL and the American Hockey League (AHL), representing teams including the Binghamton Senators, Chicago Blackhawks, and Boston Bruins.
International Debut and KHL Career
In 2007, Bochenski made his international debut for the United States at the World Championship. In 2010, he joined the Kazakhstan-based KHL team, Barys Astana, due to injuries. Despite persistent injuries, he became a key player for Barys, leading the league in scoring in the 2011/12 season and earning an All-Star Game invitation.
Kazakhstan Citizenship and International Representation
In 2014, Bochenski adopted Kazakhstani citizenship, joining his North American linemates in representing Kazakhstan at the 2016 World Championship.
Return to Barys and Retirement
After a brief retirement, Bochenski returned to Barys in 2018 for one season. Injuries forced him to announce his retirement once again in the summer of 2019.
Post-Retirement and Civic Leadership
In June 2020, Bochenski was elected as the Mayor of Grand Forks, North Dakota. He continues to contribute to the hockey community through his role as a youth coach and his work with the Grand Forks Hockey Academy.
