Budag Budagov: A Historic Azerbaijani Scientist

Early Life and Education

Budag Budagov was born in Armenia in 1928. His passion for geography led him to pursue higher education at the Azerbaijani State Pedagogical Institute, graduating in 1947. Continuing his studies, he joined the Institute of Geography at the Academy of Sciences of the USSR as a postgraduate from 1951 to 1955.

Academic Achievements

In 1955, Budagov defended his doctoral dissertation on the "Geomorphology of the Northern Slope of the Southeastern Caucasus." He further cemented his academic standing in 1967 by earning his doctorate in geographic sciences.

Professional Career

Budagov began his professional journey as a junior researcher at the Institute of Geography of the Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences in 1955. Rising through the ranks, he became a senior researcher in 1958. His administrative responsibilities expanded in 1974 when he was appointed Deputy Director of the Institute.

Leadership at the Institute of Geography

Since 1988, Budagov has served as the Director of the Institute of Geography. His leadership has guided numerous research projects and contributed to the Institute's standing as a leading center for geographical studies.

Academic Honors

Budagov's exceptional contributions to the field were recognized with his election as a Corresponding Member of the Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences in 1976. His distinguished career culminated in his induction as an Academician in 1989.
