Biography of Calista Flockhart

Calista Flockhart, an American actress predominantly known for her television roles, was born on November 11, 1964, in Freeport, Illinois. She is the daughter of a restaurant owner and a school teacher. Later, her family settled in Medford, New Jersey, and after college, she enrolled in university. It was there that Calista made a fateful decision to join acting classes. She gained her first experience on stage by performing in university and amateur productions. After graduating from university in 1987, she moved to New York to fully devote herself to acting. Over the next seven years, Flockhart participated in various productions, starting with the play "Death Takes a Vacation" at the Williams Town Theater Festival and ending with the Broadway production of "Wrong Turn" by Garry Marshall, the director of "Pretty Woman." In between her theatrical endeavors, she pursued aerobics and took on small roles in daytime dramas. Flockhart made her television debut in the series "Darrow" (1991), where she had a supporting role alongside Kevin Spacey. The following year, she landed the lead role in "The Secret Life of Mary Margaret: Portrait of a Greed", as well as a guest appearance in the popular series "Life Stories: Family Crisis". 1993 was the darkest year in Flockhart's life, as she completed an eight-week run in a Broadway show for a meager payment of $400. However, the following year marked a significant turning point in her career. The actress made her feature film debut in director Robert Redford's "Quiz Show," and soon after, director Mike Nichols cast her as the bride in the blockbuster film "The Birdcage". During auditions for the lead role in the series "Ally McBeal," she caught the attention of producer David E. Kelley, who believed she was the perfect fit. This role brought her immense fame. After the premiere of "Ally McBeal," Flockhart's career took another promising turn when she appeared alongside Kevin Bacon and Brad Renfro in "Telling Lies in America". In her next big screen outing, Flockhart frolicked in the forest as Helena in the film adaptation of Shakespeare's play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (1999). As Flockhart's popularity continues to soar, we may soon see her in the lead role in the film "Portrait of Little Jane Doe."
