Born in Italy, the cardinal embarked on his ecclesiastical journey as a member of the Roman Curia. On May 10, 1728, he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Philippi. Rise Through the Church Hierarchy

From 1748 to 1774, the cardinal served as Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for Bishops and Regulars. His responsibilities expanded in 1758 when he was appointed Apostolic Pro-Datary, a position he held until 1774. Between 1763 and 1774, he simultaneously served as Dean of the Sacred College of Cardinals and Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for Ceremonies.

Cardinalate

On September 9, 1743, the cardinal was elevated to the cardinalate, receiving the title of Cardinal-Priest of the Church of Santa Maria della Pace. This title he held until February 12, 1759, when he was promoted to Cardinal-Bishop of Albano. On May 16, 1763, he became Cardinal-Bishop of Ostia and Velletri, the most senior cardinal in the Catholic Church.
