Early Career and Club AccomplishmentsChilean footballer Carlos Carmona Bonacic embarked on his professional journey at "Coquimbo Unido" in the Chilean second division, making his debut at the tender age of 18. Although "Colo-Colo" expressed interest in acquiring his services in 2006, the deal did not materialize.
In 2007, Carmona joined "O'Higgins," where he was initially deployed as a winger but later found success as a lateral defender. His impressive performances caught the attention of Italian club "Reggina," which signed him for a four-year contract in June 2008, for a transfer fee of €1 million.
Carmona made an immediate impact at "Reggina," helping them secure promotion to Serie A. However, the team was relegated the following season, where Carmona played 32 games. In April 2010, "Fiorentina" expressed interest in signing the Chilean, offering €2.5 million.
International Stardom
Carmona's international career began with the Chilean youth team, where he captained the side at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup, leading them to a third-place finish. In June 2008, he made his senior debut for Chile in a World Cup qualifier against Bolivia. Carmona made 11 appearances in the qualifiers and was selected for the 2010 FIFA World Cup squad.
MLS Adventure and Return to Chile
In February 2017, Carmona embarked on a new chapter in his career by joining Major League Soccer expansion team "Atlanta United." He scored his first goal for the club on May 7, 2017, against "New York City." However, his MLS experience was marred by a red card in "Atlanta United's" inaugural match against "New York Red Bulls."
In January 2018, Carmona returned to his homeland, signing for "Colo-Colo." With the Chilean giants, he won the Copa Chile and the Chilean Super Cup.
