Early Life and Club Career in Uruguay
Carlos Eduardo Gutiérrez was born in Treinta y Tres, Uruguay, where he began playing football. At the age of 18, he moved to Montevideo to join River Plate. He spent seven years at the club, earning a call-up to the Uruguayan national team and being included in their squad for the 2001 Copa América.
Career in Brazil
In 2002, Gutiérrez joined Brazilian club Atlético Mineiro. His debut came on March 21, 2002, in a Copa Sul-Minas match against Joinville, which Atlético won 3-1. He departed the club after a year, having made 48 appearances.
Return to River Plate and Move to Russia
Gutiérrez returned to River Plate before being transferred to Rostov in 2004. He made his debut for the Russian club on March 13, 2004, in a 0-4 defeat against Torpedo. Over the next three seasons, he played 65 matches for Rostov.
Return to Uruguay and Later Career
In 2007, Gutiérrez returned to Uruguay to join Liverpool Montevideo for two seasons. He then moved to Central Español in 2008, where he spent another two seasons. In 2010, he became a player for Bella Vista. His debut for the club came on August 21, 2010, in a defeat against his former team, Central Español.
