Carmen Elizabeth Ejogo was born on January 1, 1974 in London, England. She was raised in London by her mother, Elizabeth Douglas Ejogo, who worked as a tour guide, and her father, Charles Ejogo, a Nigerian entrepreneur who has since passed away. Carmen's mother was a self-proclaimed hippie during her childhood. She has a younger brother named Charles who studied law and gained fame as the first successful candidate on the British version of the business reality TV show "Dragons' Den."

Acting Career
Carmen's acting career began in 1986 when she was just 12 years old. She appeared in the British musical film "Absolute Beginners" alongside stars like David Bowie and Sade Adu. After a ten-year hiatus, she returned to the screen in 1996, playing the role of Blinda in the sci-fi mini-series "Cold Lazarus" on British television. Carmen also appeared on a children's morning Saturday show, preceding the airing of Disney films. She later continued her acting career in the United States, appearing in films such as "Metro" (1997) with Eddie Murphy, "What's the Worst That Could Happen?" In the film, Jeffrey portrayed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., while Carmen played the role of Coretta Scott King, his wife. Carmen and Jeffrey currently reside in Brooklyn, New York, and have two sons, with their eldest named Elijah Wright.
