Carson Huey-You, an 11-year-old prodigy, has become the youngest student at Texas Christian University (TCU). Ray Brown, the dean of admissions, stated that he had never seen such a young applicant before. Brown was only familiar with Sam Hong, who graduated from the university at the age of 17 in 2001.
Early Signs of Giftedness
Carson's parents, Andre and Claretta, noticed his exceptional abilities at a very young age. At just three months old, Carson impressed a doctor with his ability to concentrate during a vision check-up. By the age of two, he could already read entire chapters of books and grasp the fundamentals of the Kumon math program. Carson's mother, Claretta, mentioned that her son could add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers by the time he was three years old. This progress allowed him to reach the academic level of high school students by the age of five.
A Challenging Educational Journey
Finding a suitable school for Carson proved to be a challenge due to his young age and advanced intellect. He had to switch several institutions before finally settling at ALA School in Grapevine, Texas. The director of ALA, Melissa McGowan, explained that their school had a flexible learning approach, allowing 30-40% of students to graduate earlier than usual. Carson excelled academically and demonstrated kindness and empathy towards his peers, which made him beloved by older students.
Entering Texas Christian University
After completing his time at ALA, Carson seriously considered the idea of attending college. He visited TCU and met with Dr. Magnus Rittby, the senior dean of the College of Science and Engineering. Dr. Rittby personally evaluated Carson's qualifications and justified his admission to the university. Carson's father, Andre, expressed that he never pressured his son to attend college but always supported his aspirations.
A Talented Musician and a Fan of Video Games
Carson's interests are similar to those of many children his age. He enjoys spending time with friends, playing video games, and leading an active lifestyle. His favorite game is Minecraft, and he is a devoted fan of Star Wars, particularly episodes three, five, and six. Carson's favorite Jedi is Mace Windu, and his favorite Sith is Darth Maul. Alongside his academic pursuits, Carson taught himself to play the piano using books and online courses. He now receives guidance from a music teacher who, in return, learns Chinese from Carson.
A Promising Future
Carson's parents anticipate that he will graduate from TCU within the next four to five years, making him a college graduate by the age of 15 or 16. If he continues his studies without any setbacks, Carson may receive his diploma even before obtaining his driver's license. Remarkably, Carson's younger brother, Cannan, also possesses extraordinary abilities. At the age of seven, Cannan has caught up with eighth-grade curriculum expectations. Their parents hope that Cannan will finish school by the age of 13.
When asked about his first week at TCU, Carson replied, "The workload was heavy, but everything was interesting and fun." With his intelligence and determination, Carson Huey-You is destined for a bright future.
