Katherine Keener was born on March 23, 1959, in Miami, Florida, to a Lebanese-Irish father and a mother of unknown ancestry. She attended the prestigious Catholic school, St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Bradenton, Florida. Seeking to further her education, Keener enrolled at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, where she majored in history, English, and drama. While a student, she made her debut performance in the college production of "Uncommon Women and Others."
