Katie Jung: The Woman with the Slimmest Waist
Katie Jung, an American woman, is known for having the slimmest waist in the world. She achieved this through her incredible patience, persistence, and encouragement from her husband, Bob. With a height of 1.65 meters, Katie boasts measurements of 98-38-98, a feat unmatched by any other woman.
A Fashionable Marriage
Katie Jung got married in 1959 to her husband Bob, who had a strong preference for women with narrow waists. During that time, waist-cinching belts were heavily advertised and sold everywhere. Popular figure-correcting garments included the "Merry Widow" and "Lady Marlene" sets. Like many young women of the 1950s, Katie used shaping undergarments. However, Bob desired more from his bride, and shortly before their wedding, they purchased a real corset with lacing. Over the years, Katie continued to follow Bob's desire for her to have an extremely slim waist. Gradually, she reduced her waist size from 66 cm to a shocking 55 cm.
An Eye-Opening Trip
In 1983, the couple traveled to England, where they met several women who never parted with their corsets. One of these "martyrs" had a waist measurement of approximately 40.6 cm. Katie and Bob also had the chance to meet members of the society "Les Gracieuses Modernes," passionate advocates of perfect proportions. This trip abroad helped Katie to reassess her possibilities in achieving the desired elegant waist. Bob recalls, "We lived in a small community in eastern America where wearing tightly laced corsets and belts was unknown. Before our trip, we always thought that those who practiced such things were completely different from others. But we met several such people, and these people looked perfectly normal. After that, everything changed."
Facing Resistance
Upon returning home, Katie and Bob faced opposition from their daughter, who was so dissatisfied with her mother's strange obsession that she left home. Katie explained, "My daughter had prejudices against me. She could not accept how I looked or the clothes I chose. She would tell me not to appear in a certain outfit at her school, or anything similar."
A Growing Collection
Anticipating her return to England in 1985 for the annual ball of the corset enthusiasts community, Katie ordered a special black leather corset. However, she nearly had a heart attack when her puppy tore open the package and chewed up the purchase. This incident led Katie and Bob to travel to California, where she bought another set and then arrived in San Francisco to order a training belt. In 1985, Katie only wore a corset late in the evenings and wore a waist-cinching belt at night. This was enough for the couple to attend their first ball hosted by "Les Gracieuses Modernes." The following year, with a waist size of 53 cm, Katie received several more corsets, which she wore for most of the day.
The Negative Impact
Katie admitted that constantly wearing corsets had left a negative impact on her life. She said, "Of course, even simple tasks like walking or driving a car are not easy for me. Sitting comfortably is only possible on certain chairs. There are also social problems. Not everyone understands or shares our opinion that having a slim waist is beautiful." She also mentioned the time and effort required to maintain her figure and take care of her skin.
A Comfortable Fixation
Contrary to Bob's claim that Katie never takes off her corset, she explained, "First of all, I don't have clothes that I would wear without a corset. I have also found that I feel more comfortable with some degree of body fixation when I work or engage in physical activity." She does make exceptions during hot weather when engaging in outdoor activities like fishing or boating. However, she always puts on her corset again at the end of such outings.
A Record-Breaker
Katie's slim waist earned her a place in the Guinness World Records on January 1, 1999, when her waist measurement was recorded at 38.1 cm.
An Uncredited Appearance
Katie made a cameo appearance in Matthew Barney's film "Cremaster 2." However, she requested that her name not be included in the subtitles, citing the film's "unpleasant content."
