Childhood and Early Life

Cecile Bois was born on December 26, 1971, in Talence, a suburb of Bordeaux, France. Her parents, a teacher and a hairdressing instructor, did not have a background in the performing arts. However, Bois was drawn to theater from a young age.

Adolescent Rebellion and Theater Discovery

During her teenage years, Bois became a rebellious youth, befriending punk rockers and drug users. She was drawn to individuality and sought an outlet for her pent-up anger. At the age of 16, she decided to pursue acting by enrolling in the Bordeaux Conservatory.

The Theater Journey Begins

After dropping out of the conservatory, Bois joined the amateur touring troupe Théâtre en Vrac. She later moved to Paris in the early 1990s and enrolled in the prestigious National Superior School of Theater Arts and Techniques. Theater became a sanctuary for Bois, helping her overcome her shyness and insecurities.

Breaking into Film and Television

Bois's career in theater and cinema began simultaneously in 1990. She appeared in the film "Les Diversions de la vie privée" and debuted on stage in "Zapping, Solitude, Réception." Notable roles followed in "Germinal" and "N'oublie Pas Que Tu Vas Mourir."

Rising Star in "Angélique"

In 1995, Robert Hossein, who played the iconic Geoffrey de Peyrac in "Angélique, Marquise des Anges," cast Bois in the lead role in a new stage production of the novel. Hossein's mentorship had a profound impact on her, and Bois dedicated a heartfelt tribute to him after his passing in 2020.

Prolific Filmography

Bois has an impressive filmography. After "Dakan," the first West African feature film on homosexuality, she starred in "Le Roi Danse" and the series "Maigret." Other notable works include "La Résurrection," "Le Double d'Agatha," and "La Souricière."

Major Candis Renoir

In 2012, Bois took on the role of Major Candice Renoir in the eponymous police procedural. The series has run for over ten seasons, with Bois portraying a mother of four children while bringing a touch of humor to the character.

Personal Life

Bois is happily married to fellow actor Jean-Pierre Michaël. They have two daughters, both born on September 30th but two years apart. Bois is an advocate for healthy feminism, teaching her daughters the importance of sharing household chores and dressing as they like.

Current Projects

In 2021, Bois starred in the series "Gloria" as a strong-willed woman determined to uncover the truth about her husband's disappearance. She also returned to "Candice Renoir" for its ninth season, continuing her collaboration with Rafael Lenglet.
