This comprehensive work synthesized centuries of French linguistic scholarship, drawing heavily from the influential Port-Royal Grammar. "Grammaire des grammaires" became widely acclaimed for its methodical approach and its thorough exposition of French grammar.
Lexicographer and Historian of Science
Besides his work as a grammarian, Girault-Duvivier also compiled an encyclopedic dictionary on the history of science and ancient arts entitled "Encyclop?die de l’antiquit?". This ambitious project showcased Girault-Duvivier's broad knowledge and his keen interest in the development of knowledge.
