Biography of Cheech Marin
Cheech Marin is an American actor of Mexican descent who gained fame for his role in the comedy film "Up in Smoke" (1978), which he co-wrote with comedian Tommy Chong. The two became close friends and creative partners, forming the comedy duo "Cheech and Chong." They achieved great popularity in the late 1970s, and although their partnership ended a few years later, they announced in 2014 that they were working on a new film that was eagerly anticipated by their fans.

Early Life
Richard Anthony "Cheech" Marin was born on July 13, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, USA. He was raised by his father, Oscar Marin, a policeman, and his mother, Elsa Marin, a secretary. Cheech attended Bishop Alemany High School in the San Fernando Valley and later enrolled at California State University, Northridge, but dropped out in the late 1960s. He moved to Vancouver to avoid the draft during the Vietnam War.

Meeting Tommy Chong
While in Calgary, Canada, Marin had a fateful encounter with Tommy Chong. In 1968, they formed the comedy duo "Cheech and Chong." Marin adopted the nickname "Cheech" because it sounded similar to Chong's last name. Initially performing stand-up comedy and recording comedic songs, the duo quickly gained fame. In 1972, they won a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album.

Film Career
In 1978, Chong and Marin made their acting and screenwriting debut with the comedy film "Up in Smoke." The film, directed by Chong and Lou Adler, became a huge success. This led to a series of films, including "Cheech and Chong's Next Movie" (1980), "Nice Dreams" (1981), "Things Are Tough All Over" (1982), and "Still Smokin" (1983). In 1983, Marin and Chong played different characters in the adventure comedy "Yellowbeard." They also collaborated on the film "Desperado" (1985) and Marin directed the short film "Get Out of My Room" (1985).

Solo Career
After the duo split in the mid-1980s, Marin continued his acting career. He appeared in numerous films, including "Born in East LA" (1987), "Oliver & Company" (1988), "Tin Cup" (1996), and "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" (2003). He also had a prominent role in the television series "Nash Bridges" (1996-2001). Marin reunited with Chong for a successful comedy tour in 2008 and collaborated on the animated film "Cheech & Chong's Animated Movie" (2013).

Personal Life
Marin has been married three times. From 1975 to 1984, he was married to Darlene Morley, who co-produced some of the "Cheech and Chong" films and appeared in them under the name Ricky Marin. From 1986 to 2009, he was married to artist Patti Heid, with whom he has two children. Since 2009, Marin has been married to Russian pianist Natasha Rubin.
Current Projects
In 2017, Marin will be lending his voice to the character Ramone in the film "Cars 3." Fans of Marin and Chong hope for a triumphant return of the comedic duo on the big screen.
