Early Life and Education

Cheryl Hines was born on September 21, 1965, in Miami Beach, Florida. Her father, James Hines, described himself as a "redneck." The family has roots in Frostproof, Florida. Hines grew up in Tallahassee and joined the Screen Actors Guild in high school. She also took classes at the Real World Technical Training Center. Hines studied at West Virginia University and Florida State University.

Pre-Hollywood Career

Before becoming a Hollywood actress, Hines worked as a waitress, television reporter, telephone operator, and personal assistant to Rob Reiner. Reiner did not have a significant influence on her career but enjoyed attending her shows.

Improvisational Comedy and Acting

Hines moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and began performing improvisational comedy at The Groundlings Theater. She performed alongside future "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow. Here, Hines developed her comedic sketch writing skills, which would later benefit her in "Curb Your Enthusiasm," where actors were provided only the basic plot and improvised the dialogue.

"Curb Your Enthusiasm" and Film Roles

Hines is best known for her role as Larry David's wife in the HBO series "Curb Your Enthusiasm." She was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2006 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Hines has also appeared in films such as "RV," "Waitress," and the 2008 mockumentary "The Grand."

"The Motherhood" and Other Projects

In 2008, Hines was cast in the ABC sitcom "The Motherhood," based on real-life stories submitted by mothers. She continued to work on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" alongside this series.

Personal Life

Cheryl Hines is married to Paul Young, the chairman of The Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles. They have a daughter, Catherine Rose, born on March 8, 2004.
