Early LifeJerry Walker was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and attended high school in Long Beach, California. He went on to play college basketball at Bradley University, where he earned All-American honors twice and led the team to an NIT championship in 1960.
NBA Career
Walker was selected 12th overall in the 1962 NBA Draft by the Syracuse Nationals, who relocated to Philadelphia the following year and became the Philadelphia 76ers. He spent most of his career with the 76ers, playing 10 seasons before being traded to the Chicago Bulls for the final three seasons of his career.
Walker was a versatile forward known for his athleticism, rebounding, and scoring ability. He was a member of the 1967 NBA championship team with the 76ers and participated in seven NBA All-Star Games. He finished his NBA career with 18,831 points, 7,314 rebounds, and 2,126 assists.
Honors and Legacy
Walker's accomplishments were recognized with his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. He was also named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1963 and participated in the All-Star Game seven times. He passed away in 2024 at the age of 84.
