Unbearable Swelling
Chetan Pittidia, a 53-year-old Indian man, has been living with an excruciating condition that has left his left leg swollen to four times its normal size. The cause? A mosquito bite.
A Desperate Plea for Help
The swelling began four years ago, and despite seeking medical assistance, Pittidia's leg has continued to grow in size, weighing approximately 25 kg. The excessive folds and swelling have made it almost impossible to see his foot.

The condition is known as elephantiasis, caused by filarial parasitic worms carried by mosquitoes. These parasites enter the human body through mosquito bites.
Forced to Give Up Work
A former tailor, Pittidia has been forced to give up his work due to his condition. He is desperately seeking financial assistance of $4,600 to cover the cost of effective treatment.
A Glimmer of Hope in Kerala
"My condition is worsening every day," said Pittidia, who hails from Jamnagar on the western coast of India. "I have been told that patients with my condition can only be given relief."
"But I have recently learned that there is a hospital in Kerala where my disease can probably be cured. It involves a three-month-long hospitalization with medication for nearly two years."
Years of Suffering and Hope
Living with his wife, son, and daughter, Pittidia initially hoped for a miraculous cure. He then traveled nearly 1,000 km to a municipal hospital in Mumbai, where he was given ineffective medication.
It was only later that a doctor in his hometown diagnosed Pittidia with lymphatic filariasis.
A Fatal Outlook
If the swelling spreads from his legs to his abdomen, Pittidia faces a life-threatening situation.

Elephantiasis affects an estimated 120 million people worldwide. It is characterized by massive swelling in a specific body area due to lymphatic system obstruction.
The accumulation of fluid causes the affected area to darken and ulcerate. In severe cases, it can damage blood vessels, increasing the risk of death.
Treatment Options
Treatment for elephant foot involves antibiotics to kill the parasitic worms. Surgery may be necessary when the swelling becomes abnormally large.
