Three days later, he attempted to hijack a yacht and opened fire on police officers guarding one of his potential targets. He succeeded in injuring one guard but killed another officer and critically wounded a third. On the morning of February 7, Dorner set his car on fire and escaped in an unknown direction. In their fervor to apprehend him, Dorner's former colleagues mistakenly shot and injured two elderly postal workers who were unaware of the situation.
