Early Life and Education
Chris Massoglia was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Christopher and Karen Massoglia. His parents were devout Christians and Republicans. Massoglia was homeschooled by his mother and excelled academically, reaching eighth grade level by the time his peers were in third grade. At age 13, he enrolled in an online university, studying subjects such as developmental psychology, biblical studies, algebra, and US history.
Childhood Accomplishments
Alongside his academic pursuits, Massoglia honed his skills in jiu-jitsu, piano, hip-hop dance, American Sign Language, and horseback riding. His parents declined the opportunity to move the family to Hollywood, despite Chris's frequent travel there for work.
Acting Career Beginnings
Massoglia started taking dance classes at a Minneapolis studio during high school. He auditioned for commercials, recording tapes that landed him work for Target, Marshall Field's, PepsiCo, and Best Buy. In 2003, he began acting under the name "Chris Kelly" (occasionally credited as "Chris J. Kelly"). That year, he auditioned for the role of the 10-year-old Sean in Nicole Kidman's film "Birth" but his family declined due to a scene involving nudity. From 2008 onward, he used the last name Massoglia.
