Early Life and Education

Born in Leipzig, Weiss pursued his studies in Leipzig, Berlin, and Freiberg. In 1803, he earned his doctorate from the University of Leipzig, where he later served as a professor of physics from 1808 onward.

Mineralogical Research

In 1810, Weiss joined the University of Berlin as a professor of mineralogy. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in developing a mathematical approach to mineralogy, establishing it as a cornerstone for understanding crystal structures.

Crystallographic Systems

Weiss's groundbreaking work in crystallography led to the development of crystallographic systems. In 1813, he published his seminal work, entitled "?ber die nat?rlichen Abteilungen der Krystallisationssysteme," which laid the foundation for classifying crystal systems.
