Christopher Bo Landon: An American Screenwriter and Director
Christopher Bo Landon is an American screenwriter and director, best known for his work on the screenplay for the film "Disturbia" (2007) and as the son of actor Michael Landon. Following in his father's footsteps, Christopher pursued a career in the film industry and enrolled at Loyola Marymount University. However, he dropped out after his third year when director Larry Clark offered him a job after reading one of his scripts. He collaborated with Eddie Little and Stephen Chin on the screenplay for the film "Another Day in Paradise".
A Bold Statement and a Change of Direction
After completing the screenplay, Christopher openly declared his homosexuality, aware that it could hinder his career due to homophobia in Hollywood. He stated, "Because of my homosexuality, I may have been excluded from some lists. However, if that's the case, then I don't want to be on those lists anymore." Despite initial success, Christopher felt that he was quickly forgotten and struggled to secure future opportunities. He eventually moved from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas, where he reflected on his career and returned to the industry a few years later.
A Focus on LGBTQ+ Themes
Many of Christopher's films touch on LGBTQ+ themes, including "30$", which became part of the anthology collection "Boys Life 3" – a series of five short films exploring the challenges faced by gay men. He also wrote a screenplay about a relationship between a heterosexual man and a gay man. In 2007, Christopher wrote the screenplays for "Blood and Chocolate," "The Flock," and "Disturbia." "Disturbia" became his most commercially successful screenplay, earning high box office numbers. He also worked as a writer for the film "The Lesson" and the television series "Dirty Sexy Money."
Directorial Debut and Personal Life
In 2010, Christopher made his directorial debut with the comedy-thriller film "Burning Palms." Born to Michael Landon and Lynn Noe, Christopher was the youngest of four children. His parents divorced in 1980 when he was four years old, and he continued to live with his father. When Christopher was 16, his father passed away from pancreatic cancer. His brother, Michael Landon Jr., is also an actor, and his step-sister, Jennifer Landon, is an actress as well. Christopher maintains a close friendship with Sara Gilbert and Angelina Jolie, whom he attended Beverly Hills High School with.
