Biography of Clémence Poésy
Early Life and EducationClémence Poésy, a French actress and model, began her stage career as a child and later received formal education in drama. Since 1999, she has been actively performing in both film and television. Outside of France, Poésy is perhaps best known for her roles as Fleur Delacour in 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' and Chloë in 'In Bruges'. Many consider her to be one of the finest contemporary French actresses and a worthy successor to Audrey Tautou.
Early Years
Poésy, then known as Clémence Guichard, was born in a southwestern suburb of Paris, in a family of the little-known actor Etienne Guichard. She took her stage name, Poésy, from her mother, who was a French teacher known as Poésy before marrying Guichard. As a child, Poésy attended school in Meudon. She was never among the most popular girls at school, as she was somewhat difficult and quirky. Poésy has a younger sister, Méllé, who also chose a career in acting.
Career
As a child, Poésy got her first role thanks to her father. She repeated her stage experience at the age of fourteen. After graduating from the bilingual school La Source, Poésy went on to study drama at CNSAD, Blanche Salant and Paul Weaver International School, and Nanterre University. After a series of roles in French films, television, and stage productions, Poésy landed her first international role in the BBC miniseries 'Gunpowder, Treason & Plot', where she portrayed Mary, Queen of Scots. The role earned her the Golden FIPA Award for Best Actress in a Television Series in 2005.
In the same year, Poésy got a role in another installment of the popular 'Harry Potter' series, 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'. From 2006 to 2007, she appeared in several minor television and film productions, including the 2007 miniseries 'War and Peace', where she played Natasha Rostova. In 2008, Poésy starred in the Oscar-nominated film 'In Bruges' alongside Colin Farrell and her 'Goblet of Fire' co-stars Ralph Fiennes and Brendan Gleeson. In 2009, she appeared in the film 'Heartless' with Jim Sturgess. It is expected that the film 'Lullaby for Pi', in which Poésy has a leading role, will be released soon.
Although Poésy did not appear in the sixth film of the 'Harry Potter' series, 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince', it is expected that she will appear in both parts of the film adaptation of the final book, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows', which are set to be released in November 2010 and July 2011, respectively. In 2010, the film 'Jeanne Captive' is expected to be released, in which Poésy is rumored to portray the legendary figure of French history, Joan of Arc.
Modeling Career
Poésy has a significant modeling experience. She has worked with several well-known magazines and has been featured on the cover of publications such as 'i-D', the French project 'Jalouse', 'Yen' from Australia, and 'Nylon'. Since October 2007, Poésy has been one of the three official representatives of the new line of perfume products from 'Chloe'. In 2008, she worked on the autumn fashion advertising campaign for the popular retail chain 'Gap'.
