Clifford Allison, born on October 20, 1964, in Hueytown, Alabama, came from a renowned family of American stock car racers.
Family Legacy
The son of NASCAR champion Bobby Allison, Clifford was part of the famed "Alabama Gang," a group of drivers assembled by his father. His uncle Donnie Allison and older brother Davey Allison were also successful racers. Both Bobby and Davey were inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, along with Donnie.
Early Life and Career
Growing up in Hueytown, Clifford was recognized as a member of the Alabama Gang from a young age. Known for his determination, he was considered the most talented among his siblings. He began his racing career in the early 90s, competing in ARCA and NASCAR Busch Series events.
Marriage and Personal Life
Clifford married Tammy Hall, and they had a daughter named Leslie Allison. He later divorced Tammy and married Elsa Allison.
Racing Achievements
Allison made his NASCAR debut at Daytona International Speedway in 1990. In three years, he participated in 22 NASCAR races, with his best finish being a second place at Texas World Speedway in April 1992.
Tragic Death
On August 13, 1992, during a practice run for the Detroit Gasket 200 at Michigan International Speedway, Clifford crashed into a concrete wall. He died en route to the hospital. His death was a major loss to the racing community and devastated his family, who had lost another son, Davey, in a helicopter crash less than a year earlier.
