Early Life and Career Beginnings
Born in Morteros, Argentina, Cristian Villagra began his footballing career in his hometown. He later joined the ranks of the "9 de Julio" club. In 2004, he moved to "Rosario Central," making his debut in the Argentine Primera División in 2006.
River Plate and Argentine National Team
In 2007, Villagra transferred to "River Plate" for a fee of €500,000. He played alongside Marco Ruben and Juan Ojeda, and helped the team win the 2008 Clausura championship. He recorded 78 appearances and 3 goals for the club.
In 2010, Villagra was called up to the Argentine national team by Diego Maradona. He made two friendly appearances against Scotland and Haiti.
Metalist Kharkiv and European Success
In July 2010, Villagra signed a four-year contract with Ukrainian club "Metalist Kharkiv." He debuted in the Ukrainian Premier League against "Tavriya Simferopol" and played a key role in the team's successful run in the 2010-11 UEFA Europa League. Metalist finished second in their group, advancing past "Sampdoria" and "Debrecen."
