Biography of Curt Kirkwood

Curt Kirkwood is an American musician and the leader of the band 'Meat Puppets'. He was born in 1959 and grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1980, he formed the band 'Meat Puppets' together with his brother Cris Kirkwood. Cris played bass, Derrick Bostrom played drums, and Curt played guitar in the rock band.

The style of the new band was later described as a strange mixture of country and punk rock, but this uniqueness did not prevent the musicians from carving out their niche in the music world of the 80s. Their first album, simply titled 'Meat Puppets', was well-received, with special attention given to the track 'Tumblin' Tumbleweeds'. With their second album, 'Meat Puppets II', the band firmly established their hardcore style. They went on to release several successful albums, but in 1996, the band went on a long hiatus due to creative disagreements.

After a lineup change, Curt completed the album 'Golden Lies' in 2000 and embarked on a solo journey. Teaming up with Krist Novoselic from Nirvana on bass and Bud Gaugh from Sublime on drums, Curt formed the rock band 'Eyes Adrift'. In 2002, the band released a self-titled album and embarked on a tour across the United States.

Curt later formed another band called 'Volcano', which only released one album in the history of rock. He then focused solely on his solo career, and in 2005, he released his album 'Snow'. In 2006, it was decided to revive 'Meat Puppets'. Ted Marcus replaced Bostrom on drums. It is known that Bostrom, who was initially invited by Curt to join the revived band, declined to participate. Since then, the band has released two albums – 'Rise to Your Knees' in 2007 and 'Sewn Together' in 2009.

When asked how he got into music, Curt cites his childhood love for the Beatles, the Monkees, and Bobby Sherman. He admits that when composing his songs, he does not think about whether people will like them or try to cater to their taste. Curt simply develops his musical ideas. The same goes for his performances – if he starts thinking about how cool he looks with the guitar, he won't be able to play anything worthwhile. Curt also confessed that he never tried to make his music for the sake of money – the financial aspect has always been secondary to his desire to create and play.
