Rise to Fame

In the years 1981-1985, Rothrock held the title of champion in the United States Karate Championship, even competing against male opponents. She also demonstrated her skills with various weapons and became the first female martial arts master to have her portraits featured on magazine covers.

Entrance into the Film Industry

Rothrock made her debut in the film industry in 1985 in Hong Kong, specifically at the "Golden Harvest" studio. Her first film, "Shanghai Express," starred Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao, two prominent Hong Kong actors. Rothrock was initially cast in a role that was intended for a male actor, but the creators of the film were so impressed with her performance that they altered the script. With this achievement, Rothrock became the first Western actress to appear in Hong Kong action films.

Continued Success

Rothrock spent five years in Hong Kong, working on various films produced by Sammo Hung. Although she missed the opportunity to work with Jackie Chan in the film "Armor of God" due to unforeseen circumstances, Rothrock went on to star in more than 30 films released in both the United States and Hong Kong. Some of her notable works include "No Retreat, No Surrender 2," "Lady Dragon," and "Superfighters." She had the privilege of working alongside renowned martial arts actors such as Richard Norton, Jalal Merhi, Billy Blanks, and Bolo Yeung.

Martial Arts Style

On-screen, Cynthia Rothrock showcases a crucial quality of martial arts - natural movement. Her kicks, especially the trademark high kick to the opponent's forehead during a frontal attack, display her remarkable flexibility.

Recognition and Humor

Cynthia Rothrock's talent and charm have earned her recognition beyond the world of martial arts. In a playful description published in the renowned American magazine "Black Belt," she was humorously compared to other action stars: "Her ponytail is better than Seagal's, her chest is better than Arnold's, her gaze outshines Van Damme and Norris. Moreover, unlike Stallone and Willis, she triumphs over villains while confidently strutting in high heels!"
