Margherita Gerasimovich, known by her stage name 'Dakota', was born in 1990 in Minsk, Belarus. From a young age, Dakota had a passion for music and began singing at the age of five, during which she also wrote her first songs. As a member of the choir 'Tonika' in her music school, she experienced what it was like to perform in concerts and immerse herself in the lively atmosphere of musical tours. By the age of ten, Dakota had her own recorded demo versions of completed songs. With a talent for both songwriting and lyrics, Dakota also wrote several songs for her fellow participants in the project.
The Unconventional Performer
The pseudonym 'Dakota' translates from Portuguese slang as 'unusual, multifaceted', which the young singer repeatedly demonstrated during her time in the 'Star Factory-7' project. She also likes to call herself 'Rock lady', and would sometimes write these words on the tips of her fingers with markers. Her musical interests lie in the realms of hard and punk rock, making her one of the most extravagant participants in the 'Star Factory' project. Dakota has been nominated in several Belarusian vocal competitions, where she exclusively performs her own compositions.
A Passion for Advocacy
Despite her dedication to subculture, which may seem incompatible with the Russian national project that molds pop stars, Dakota explains her participation in the project as a desire to 'convey the ideas of her environment to young people'. Finding a larger audience than the viewers of the central Russian channel would be unlikely. Dakota is a committed anti-globalist, a vegetarian who consistently avoids using animal products, vehemently opposes carnivorous habits, does not wear fur, and condemns the excessive luxury that is often openly displayed in the entertainment industry. She is an active member of a worldwide youth organization whose slogan is 'Food instead of bombs'. The main goal of this organization is to provide direct assistance to the poor and homeless.
A Talented and Determined Individual
If we were to gather the opinions of Dakota's project colleagues and those who have judged or simply listened to her, an image of a bright, unconventional, and non-conformist yet amazingly talented and capable personality would emerge. At the same time, the young singer is very demanding of herself and knows exactly what hard work entails. Without waiting for inspiration, Dakota is willing to work on her songs for as long as it takes. It is said that she does not leave the piano until she is satisfied with the final version of the composition. In addition to music, Margherita Gerasimovich is passionate about photography, shooting music videos, and enjoys independent cinema.
