Dana Ivey, an American character actress, was born on August 14, 1942, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was raised in a family of a speech therapist and an actress, Mary Nell Ivey (nee McCoyn), and a physicist, Hugh Dogerty Ivey. At the age of six, Dana decided to become an actress, just like her mother. She started honing her acting skills while still in high school and played leading roles at the theater of Rollins College in Florida after graduating.

Due to her immense talent, Ivey received a scholarship to study at the Drama Studio in London at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. She gained fame on the theatrical stage, earning critical acclaim and numerous awards, including Tony Awards, Outer Critics, and Drama Desk Awards.
