A Survivor of Severe Burns
Dana Vulin, a 31-year-old Australian woman, has become a victim of a jealous woman who doused her with methylated spirits and set her on fire. Dana has undergone over 200 surgical procedures since Natalie Dimitrovska poured the alcohol on her and ignited it in February 2012. The incident occurred after Dana had a conversation with Natalie's husband at a party, and the jealous woman, accompanied by her friend Daniela Stone, mistakenly believed that there was a romantic connection between Dana and her husband. In a horrifying moment, Dimitrovska grabbed a bottle of methylated spirits, unscrewed the cap, and poured the liquid all over Dana. The methylated spirits ignited, engulfing her in flames. The fire spread rapidly, burning her entire body, and the pain was excruciating. Dana screamed for help as she desperately tried to put out the fire by pouring water from a bucket over herself. Eventually, she managed to escape to a neighbor's house, where she received assistance. Denis Erickson, a man exercising in the nearby apartment complex, heard Dana's cries and rushed to help her. He stayed with her until the ambulance arrived. Dana spent two days in a coma at the hospital.

A Journey of Recovery
During her time in a coma, Dana experienced dreams of her sister, Svetlana. Sometimes, she could sense her sister's presence through her voice or snippets of songs they used to sing together. One song that held a special meaning for Dana was Whitney Houston's "Step by Step." It was this song that brought her back to consciousness. Despite the immense pain and the long road to recovery, Dana found solace in repeating the lyrics of the song as a mantra every day.

Dana's journey to healing was arduous and challenging. Two-thirds of her body suffered third-degree burns, and she had to wear a compression mask on her face for two and a half years to aid in the healing process. She underwent multiple skin graft surgeries, with doctors replacing the skin on her chest three times. After a long and difficult recovery, Dana triumphantly removed her mask to reveal her transformed face on the TV show "Sunday Night" on Channel Seven. She described herself as a living testament to modern medicine and expressed her gratitude for surviving such a horrific ordeal.

A Life Altered
Natalie Dimitrovska, the woman who attacked Dana, was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Dana's life has been forever changed by the incident. However, she refuses to let her horrific experience define her. She sees herself as a symbol of resilience and strength, comparing herself to a modern-day Frankenstein's monster. Dana considers herself a walking advertisement for the power of modern medicine. She feels like a winner of Olympic gold, having overcome unimaginable challenges and taken small steps towards her recovery, drop by drop.
