Biography of Daniel Silva
Daniel Silva is an American writer and author of a series of best-selling thriller and spy novels. Born in Michigan and raised in California, Silva had a passion for writing from a young age. Although initially pursuing a degree in international relations, he eventually found his calling as a writer.
Silva began his writing career as a journalist, working for United Press International in Washington, D.C. and later serving as a Middle East correspondent in Cairo, Egypt. During his time in the Middle East, he met his future wife, journalist Jamie Gangel. Eventually, Silva transitioned to working as a producer for CNN in Washington, D.C.
In 1994, Silva started working on his first novel, "The Unlikely Spy," while still employed at CNN. Published in 1996, the book became an instant bestseller and propelled him to literary success. Silva left CNN in 1997 to focus full-time on his writing career.
Silva's second and third novels, "The Mark of the Assassin" and "The Marching Season," were also well-received and became bestsellers. However, it was his fourth book, "The Kill Artist," that introduced his most popular character, Gabriel Allon, an Israeli spy and art restorer. Allon's character resonated with readers, and Silva went on to write a total of 16 spy novels featuring him, all of which became bestsellers.
Throughout his career, Silva has tackled various themes in his novels, including terrorism, Russian adversaries, and events related to World War II and the Holocaust. He is known for his meticulous research and travels to gather information for his books. Silva's works have been translated into 25 languages and have sold worldwide.
