Early Life and Family

Daniela Sofia Korn Ruah was born on December 2, 1983, in Boston, Massachusetts. She is an American actress of Portuguese origin. Her father, Moisés Carlos Bentes Ruah, is an otorhinolaryngologist, and her mother, Catarina Lia Azancot Korn, is also of Portuguese descent. Daniela's right eye is black from birth, while her left eye is light brown. She is the only child in the family.

Family History and Heritage

The Ruah family is one of the first Portuguese Jewish families to return to their ancestral homeland in the 19th century when Jews were allowed to settle in Portugal again. Most of the expelled Portuguese Jews settled in Morocco, but they maintained a memory of their native places for almost four centuries. Daniela's maternal grandmother was Sephardic Jewish, while her paternal grandfather was Ashkenazi Jewish and was born in modern-day Poland. Daniela's great-great-grandmother was Spanish.

Education and Career

Daniela attended the Saint Julian's School in Carcavelos, near Lisbon, where many Portuguese and international celebrities' children study. After completing her education there, she enrolled at the London Metropolitan University. She became an active member of the Portuguese Jewish community. In 2003, she was interviewed by the Jewish Telegraph Agency during a gathering of Jewish youth from 32 countries under the auspices of the European Union of Jewish Students.

Acting Career

Daniela Ruah started appearing in Portuguese soap operas as a teenager. She got her first role at the age of 16 in the soap opera "Jardins Proibidos." While continuing to work on various projects, she completed her school education. At the age of 18, she went to London to earn a Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts. After graduating with first-class honors, Daniela returned to Portugal and continued her work on television, theater, and short films.

Move to the United States

In 2007, Daniela moved to New York City to study at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, one of the world's most prestigious acting schools, in hopes of boosting her career. In 2010, she won the Portuguese Golden Globe award for "Discovery of the Year." She was also nominated for "Best Actress in a Television Action Series" at the Teen Choice Awards. Currently, Daniela Ruah stars as Special Agent Kensi Blye in the police drama "NCIS: Los Angeles" and is preparing for the release of the film "Red Tails," an adventure drama about World War II pilots, written by George Lucas and John Ridley. She is fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish and holds dual citizenship in the United States and Portugal.
