Early Career
Daniele Bagnoli began his coaching career in 1980 with Mantua, the team from his hometown. He led them back to the top flight of Italian volleyball, Serie A1, in 1989.
Success with Modena and Sisley
Bagnoli's most significant achievements came with Modena and Sisley. He guided these clubs to a combined total of eight Italian Championships and five European Champions Cups. The 2006/07 season was particularly successful for Bagnoli and Sisley, as they won every possible title in Italy and narrowly missed out on adding another Champions League trophy, losing to German side Friedrichshafen in the "round of six."
Russian Coaching and National Team Success
In the fall of 2007, Bagnoli moved to Russia to take over as head coach of Moscow Dynamo, replacing Vladimir Alekno who had become coach of the Russian national team. In his first year, Bagnoli led Dynamo to the Russian Championship title, followed by the Supercup and Cup in the fall of 2008.
Due to his success with Dynamo, Bagnoli became a candidate for the position of head coach of the Russian national team. Despite never having coached a national team (except for a brief period in 1991-1992 when he filled in for Julio Velasco), he applied for the positions with both the Polish and Russian volleyball federations. After Argentina's Daniel Castellani was appointed coach of Poland on January 17, 2009, Bagnoli effectively became the head coach of the Russian men's team. His appointment was officially confirmed on February 17. Following the Russian Championship, he left Dynamo to focus on preparing the national team for the World League matches.
