Biography of Daniele Gatti

Daniele Gatti was born on November 6, 1961, in Milan, Italy. He studied at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan. Throughout his career, Gatti has held various prestigious positions as a conductor.

Early Career

From 1992 to 1997, Gatti served as the principal conductor of the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. In 1997, he became the musical director of the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna. Gatti has also worked as the principal guest conductor of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

International Recognition

Gatti gained international recognition when he conducted a concert in 2005 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the reopening of the Vienna State Opera. He led the concert alongside renowned Indian conductor Zubin Mehta and German conductor Christian Thielemann.

London Philharmonic Orchestra

In 1994, Gatti made his debut as a guest conductor with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. He was immediately offered the position of principal conductor, which he accepted in 1996. Under Gatti's leadership, the London Philharmonic Orchestra regained its reputation and stood alongside other leading orchestras in London. In 2004, the orchestra found its first permanent residence in the Cadogan Hall.

Current Work

In April 2007, Gatti was part of a group of eight British orchestra conductors who approved a ten-year program to promote classical music in the UK. He left his position as the conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009 but remained its honorary conductor. Currently, Gatti conducts the Mahler cycle with the Orchestre National de France. He also has planned performances with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from the Netherlands, and another production of "Parsifal" at the Bayreuth Festival.

Personal Life

Daniele Gatti is married to Italian cellist Silvia Chiesa, who performs as a soloist with renowned orchestras in Italy and other countries.
