Early Life and Military Career
Born on December 25, 1900 in the village of Baymaksky Zavod, Omsk Governorate, Soviet military commander and General-Colonel of Artillery Aleksandr Grigoryevich Nedvigin was the son of a miner. In 1918, he joined the Red Army and participated in the Russian Civil War, serving on the Eastern and Turkestan fronts from 1919 to 1922.
Education and Pre-World War II Service
Nedvigin completed the Military-Political Courses in 1922 and the S.S. Kamenev Sumy Artillery School in 1928. Before the outbreak of World War II, he served as the head of the Ryazan Artillery School. From May 1941, he became the commander of the 1st Air Defense Corps and concurrently the head of Moscow's Air Defense point.
World War II
During the war, Nedvigin commanded the Western Air Defense Front and played a crucial role in defending Moscow from air attacks.
Post-War Service
In 1946, Nedvigin commanded the Western and North-Western Air Defense Districts. He later served as deputy commander of the USSR Air Defense Forces and head of the radio-technical troops and air warning and communication services of the Air Defense Forces. In 1950, he graduated from the advanced training courses for senior commanders at the K.E. Voroshilov Higher Military Academy.
Retirement and Legacy
Nedvigin retired from the military in 1954 and was awarded the honorary title of Citizen of Moscow. He died on September 16, 1974 and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery. Nedvigin was the author of the book "Moscow's Fire Shield."
