Dashiin Dambyn (1908-1993)

Early Life and Career

Dashiin Dambyn was born in 1908 in Mongolia. He joined the revolutionary movement in his early twenties and quickly rose through the ranks of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP).

Political Rise

In 1939, Dambyn became one of the secretaries of the Central Committee of the MPRP. He played a key role in the party's policies and decision-making. In 1954, he was elected First Secretary of the Central Committee, making him the leader of the Mongolian government.

Conflict with Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal

Dambyn's leadership was marked by a rivalry with Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal. Tsedenbal, who had been instrumental in the rehabilitation of victims of repression during Khorloogiin Choibalsan's rule, emerged as a powerful contender for power.

Downfall

In 1958, Dambyn attempted to capitalize on the rehabilitation process to launch a campaign against Tsedenbal. However, Tsedenbal's allies within the party rallied against Dambyn, who was forced to resign as First Secretary.

Later Years

After leaving the government, Dambyn remained a prominent figure in Mongolian politics. He held various positions, including Chairman of the Presidium of the People's Great Hural (parliament).
