Biography of David Brian Hayter

David Brian Hayter is an American actor, voice actor, and screenwriter. He is best known as the voice of Solid Snake and Big Boss in the "Metal Gear" video game series. Hayter has also contributed to the screenplay of films such as "X-Men," "The Scorpion King," and "X2." He wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation of the graphic novel "Watchmen," which was approved by the director and original author of the project. Additionally, Hayter played the lead role in the sci-fi action film "Guyver: Dark Hero."

Hayter was born in California to Canadian parents. He began his acting career at the age of nine and spent much of his childhood traveling around the world. At the age of fifteen, he settled in Japan and graduated from the Canadian Academy, an international school. After high school, Hayter attended Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, where he studied until the age of twenty before moving to Hollywood.

In the early 1990s, Hayter briefly pursued acting in various films but quickly became interested in voice acting. His first major role as a voice actor was Captain America in the popular animated series "Spider-Man" in 1994. He also provided the voice for Arsène Lupin III in the English version of the anime film "The Castle of Cagliostro" and worked on the English version of the anime series "Fushigi Yūgi."

In 1998, Hayter voiced the protagonist Solid Snake in the highly acclaimed video game "Metal Gear Solid" for the PlayStation. He continued to voice the character in the sequels "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty" and "Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes." He also voiced Naked Snake, also known as Big Boss, in the prequels "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" and "Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops." Hayter reprised the role of Solid Snake in "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots" and is expected to voice Naked Snake again in the upcoming game "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker" for the PSP. He also voiced himself in an alternate universe version of the "Metal Gear" series.

Hayter's dedication to the "Metal Gear" series led him to take a pay cut during the production of the remake "Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes" to ensure the original voice cast was involved. His commitment to the role has made him a beloved figure among fans of the series. In an interview with Game Informer in 2001, Hayter expressed his desire to see a fully computer-generated film adaptation of "Metal Gear" and to be involved as a screenwriter under the guidance of series creator Hideo Kojima. However, his screenplay was not favored by Sony Pictures, and it is unknown if he will have any role in the eventual film adaptation.

Thanks to his work on "Metal Gear Solid," Hayter has had the opportunity to voice numerous characters in various video games, including the heroes in "Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem" by Silicon Knights, the creators of "Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes" for the Nintendo GameCube.
