Philipp Degen is a retired Swiss footballer who played as a right midfielder. He began his professional career with FC Aarau in 2000 but later returned to his childhood club, FC Basel, in 2003.
Early Life and Career
Born in Liestal, Degen began his footballing journey with local club FC Oberdorf. At the age of 14, he joined the youth setup of FC Basel, progressing through their under-18 and under-21 teams.
Professional Success at Basel
Degen made his professional debut for Basel in the 2003/04 season, helping the team win both the Swiss Super League and Swiss Cup. He went on to win three more Super League titles (2004/05, 2007/08, and 2012/13) and another Swiss Cup in 2008.
International Career
Degen represented Switzerland at the international level, making 31 appearances for the national team. He was part of the squad that participated in the Euro 2008 tournament, where Switzerland reached the quarter-finals.
