Biography of David Hockney

David Hockney is an English artist, graphic designer, photographer, and stage designer. Born on July 9, 1937 in Bradford, Yorkshire, he received his education at Bradford College of Art and the Royal College of Art (1959-1960). Hockney's exhibitions in the United States (1964 and 1965), London (1970), and other European countries (1970 and 1974) established him as the most popular contemporary English artist. In his work, he explores various styles, both traditional and modern.

Many of Hockney's artworks were created as a tribute to the masters of the past. For example, in his composition "Artist and Model" (1974), Hockney himself poses naked in front of Picasso, intensely studying the master. In "Looking at Pictures on a Screen" (1977), a museum curator and art critic named Henry Geldzahler is depicted studying reproductions of four paintings on a screen.

In 1982, Hockney gained fame as a leading master of contemporary photography through his exhibition "David Hockney - Photographer" at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the book "David Hockney: Photographs" (1982). A major retrospective exhibition of the artist's works was showcased in 1998 in Los Angeles and New York. Hockney has also published two volumes of memoirs: "David Hockney by David Hockney" (1977) and "That's the Way I See It" (1993).
