David Sklansky was born in 1947 in Teaneck, New Jersey. He inherited a passion for mathematics from his father, earning him the nickname "The Mathematician." After graduating from Teaneck High School in 1966, Sklansky pursued a degree in mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania.

Professional Poker Career

However, Sklansky's love for poker soon overtook his academic aspirations. He moved to Las Vegas in the 1970s to pursue a career as a professional gambler. In 1979, he achieved a significant milestone by winning a Razz tournament. By 1982, Sklansky had won two World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets, adding to his total of three bracelets throughout his career.
