In April 2005, at the age of 48, Dean Armstrong received a devastating diagnosis: stomach cancer. Despite initial discomfort during swallowing, other symptoms were absent, prompting his wife, Patty, to insist on an endoscopy. The results revealed a malignant growth.
Distraught by the impersonal treatment they had received at their local hospital, Dean and Patty sought a second opinion at the American Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in Chicago, Illinois. The 400-mile journey proved transformative as the medical team at CTCA demonstrated genuine care and expertise.
Hope Amidst Treatment
Dean underwent chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy. Despite initial concerns about the necessity of radiation, Dean's oncologist, Dr. Eden, explained its role in reducing the risk of recurrence. The comprehensive approach and compassion of the medical team instilled hope and a sense of support.
