Biography of Deborah Kershaw

Former junk food lover

Deborah Kershaw was once a lover of unhealthy food, particularly snacks and sweets. While many people have some degree of addiction to unhealthy food, it usually does not extend beyond a simple unhealthy habit and only moderately harms one's health. In exceptional cases, however, this weakness can turn into a real obsession and threaten a person's life. This was almost the case for Deborah Kershaw, whose love for unhealthy but delicious food nearly led her to the grave.

Night shifts and unhealthy eating

As part of her job, Deborah often had to work overnight shifts. It was during these shifts that she indulged in unhealthy food. While she tried to eat as healthy as possible during the day, her desire to snack took over in the evenings, resulting in her consuming tasty but incredibly unhealthy snacks. Deborah had struggled with obesity since her teenage years, and a school injury further exacerbated her health problems. Breaking her ankles at the age of 13 forced her to give up physical education classes for a while. Adjusting to a sedentary lifestyle was easy, but breaking this habit proved to be much more difficult. Deborah remained sedentary in the future, which, over time, combined with her addiction to unhealthy food.

Weight gain and health problems

Her diet consisted of greasy toasts, large portions of sugary cereals for breakfast, numerous snacks, sweets, and sausages throughout the day. It was simply impossible not to gain weight with such a lifestyle. As Deborah mentioned, a large "cinematic" pack of cheese Doritos was a light and inconspicuous snack for her. She washed down the unhealthy food with equally harmful sugary drinks. Of course, Deborah knew that this lifestyle would not lead to anything good, but for some time, the potential problems were too abstract for her. Unfortunately, these abstract problems soon became very real.

Diabetes diagnosis

The first sign of serious health problems came in the form of a series of strange illnesses. Ultimately, Deborah decided to find out why infections were attacking her with such pleasure. The doctors' diagnosis shocked her - she had diabetes. What had previously seemed like simple fatigue turned out to be a symptom of an extremely dangerous disease. The doctors informed Deborah that her condition was severe, as her glycated hemoglobin level (a measure of blood sugar) was three times higher than normal. She went to a dietitian, but she did not immediately implement all the advice given. The only change she made was giving up sugary drinks in favor of diet ones. Obviously, this change did not bring much benefit, and the progression of the disease did not slow down. By October 2012, the situation had become even worse; Kershaw began experiencing kidney problems. The doctors were adamant - she would soon have to start injecting insulin. This was the last straw that broke Deborah Kershaw's resistance to taking care of herself.

Healthy lifestyle changes

The first step towards a healthier lifestyle was counting calories. Using a special mobile app, Deborah realized that she was consuming roughly twice the recommended amount of calories per day. Almost immediately, she gave up unhealthy snacks and switched to nutritious food. It was not easy - for several days, Deborah suffered from unbearable hunger. However, she endured this trial with remarkable patience, thanks in no small part to the active support of her husband and two children. Surprisingly, maintaining a healthy diet became much easier afterward. In less than a year, Kershaw lost over 50 kilograms and has no intention of regaining the lost weight. Doctors have confirmed that her change in lifestyle has significantly improved her health. Her blood sugar levels have returned to normal, and it seems like diabetes no longer bothers Kershaw. Most importantly, Deborah now feels much better than before and will never give up her newly found source of emotional balance.
